Real Madrid’s squad of 22 players is worth twice as much as that of cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid, who also have the same number of players. Los Blancos’ expensively assembled group are valued at a staggering €707.3 million, while Atletico’s Rojiblancos are valued at €358.5 million.
The figures are provided by the highly credible football valuation website, transfermarkt.com, a German website that provides a monetary worth to every player based on a variety of factors, including the amount that was paid for them by their club.
That Real Madrid’s squad is valued over Atletico, despite the league table having the Rojiblancos above their much-vaunted rivals by a single point reveals the extent of the good work done by Diego Simeone with a much lesser budget.
Looking at the figures provided by Transfermarkt in much more detail, it is unsurprising that Cristiano Ronaldo is Real Madrid’s most valuable player. However, what is interesting is that the German website rates the Portuguese superstar’s value at €110 million, more than the €96 million that Real paid for him at his peak. Ronaldo’s aging isn’t coming in the way of his valuation, it seems.
Similarly, Atletico’s most valued player is Antoine Griezmann at €60 million, who narrowly beat out high rated midfielder Koke at €50 million. If not for these two players, Atletico’s lack of bonafide superstars is quite apparent, at the squad’s average worth is a mere €12.5 million without them.
Here is the entirety of the squad worth:

Given Real Madrid legend Jose Maria Guti’s assertion that none of the Atletico players would get into the Real Madrid team, the data above probably proves him wrong, as atleast monetarily, plenty of Atletico’s players can make the Los Galacticos side.
What’s for sure though, is that come the Madrid derby, all valuations will go out of the window the moment the players step onto the pitch.
