#3. Getafe successfully managed to defend their lead
Real Madrid were stunned early on in the game through Enes Unal after a defensive error by Eder Militao. After the goal, Real Madrid tried everything in their power to turn the tide around. Despite that, Getafe were triumphant in their efforts to keep Real Madrid at bay.
After conceding, Real Madrid tried to take charge of the proceedings. They had 74% possession but could not make the most of it and Getafe was able to absorb all the pressure. This victory is a huge boost for them as they are now two places clear of the relegation zone.
#2. Abysmal defensive performance by Real Madrid
From the starting whistle, Real Madrid looked shaky at the back. David Alaba, Eder Militao and Thibaut Courtois all had a game to forget. The Brazilian was directly at fault for Getafe's winner of the night.
Militao was enjoying a great season but Sunday's blunder might have rattled him. He lost possession of the ball in his own box which left Courtois completely exposed in front of goal.
As for Alaba, it was arguably his worst game in a Real Madrid jersey.
#1. Real Madrid's unbeaten run in La Liga comes to an end
With the weekend loss against Getafe, Real Madrid's 11-game unbeaten streak in the La Liga came to an end. The Spanish giants were at the top of their game before the Christmas break and were grinding out victories anyhow. Sunday's defeat was Real Madrid's first since the month of October.
Despite that, Real Madrid sit at the top of the table with 46 points. Sevilla are in second place with 38 points but they also have two games in hand. Real Madrid will have to buckle up if they are to maintain their lead at the top.
