Real Madrid are planning for yet another busy summer transfer window with a few top targets from the Premier League and the German Bundesliga. According to La Liga expert Guillem Balague, Real are planning to raid Manchester United for their star goalkeeper David de Gea.
The Spanish goalkeeper was hours away from making a switch to the Bernabeu but the deal fell through due to logistical issues. Real now plan to rekindle their interest in the United star and are also planning to make a move for Chelsea's Eden Hazard.
The Belgian attacker hasn't been in the best of form for the London club and a move to Spain could be the answer to rejuvenate his career. There was one surprise name linked with a move as Balague stated that Bayern Munich's Robert Lewandowski could also be someone that Madrid would be trying to sign in the summer.
Balague was asked about Real Madrid's plans for David de Gea in his column for Sky Sports and had this response:
"The plan is to change the team and bring big players in next season. There are targets, but I do not know if they will meet them. They want De Gea, Eden Hazard and Robert Lewandowski, however that does not mean they will get them. Those players are just targets, so we will see…"
Real need a change
Real Madrid are known for spending lavishly during summer transfer windows and they would be looking to invest in their squad to challenge the dominance of Barcelona. Madrid sit 12 points behind the Catalan giants in the La Liga standings and are even behind city rivals Atletico Madrid, who defeated them 1-0 recently.
Los Galacticos had to deal with a change of manager mid-season when Rafael Benitez was sacked and replaced by club legend Zinedine Zidane. The Frenchman hasn't had the best of times recently and with the club being 12 points behind Barcelona, there are no realistic chances of them winning the Spanish title.
The only probable chance of silverware for Madrid would be the UEFA Champions League where they hold a 2-0 lead over AS Roma in the round-of-16 tie. Real face Roma in the home leg in Spain on Tuesday and will look to progress into the next round thanks to their two-goal lead.
Madrid did win the Champions League in the 2013-14 season where they defeated Atletico Madrid but haven't lifted the La Liga crown since the 2011-12 season.
