Real Madrid thrashed Chinese Soccer League Club Guangzhou Evergrande 7-1 in the first match of their China tour in the southern city of Guangzhou earlier today.
Striker Karim Benzema, who has struggled to find form in Madrid, netted a brace while Ronaldo, who had to face the wrath of Chinese media, scored a cheeky back-heal.
Jose Mourinho decided to field a full strength team. It took the Spanish giants just 7 minute to go ahead, when an unmarked Sami Khedira headed a Benzema cross into the goal. The visitors doubled their score at the half hour mark when the Chinese defense broke down to allow Ozil to run through them, the German international then rounded up the goalkeeper before scoring.
Then in the 39th minute, Benzema scored first of his two goals when he fired a low shot at the goal which crossed the line before Ronaldo rattled the bar with his powerful strike just before the break.
The Spanish played the similar dominating game even after the break and set up another one for Benzema just three minutes into the second half to enthrall the full capacity crowd at Tianhe Stadium.
Ronaldo wasn’t going to leave out his name in the scorecard, especially after the Chinese Media and Fans labeled him arrogant for his behavior in the pre match press conference. The former Manchester United talisman scored a cheeky back heal goal in the 56th minute to put the visitor 5-0 up.
To give his boys a match practice before the tight European season, Mourinho made a wholesale change at the hour mark just to see Real Madrid pump in two more goals through substitute Jese and Angel Di Maria.
However the biggest cheer of the night from the crowd was reserved for Yang Yihu when he scored a consolation goal with three minutes to go. Real Madrid next play CSL runners-up, Tianjin Teda at the iconic Water Drop Stadium on Saturday 6 August.
