Real Madrid Transfer News: Lassana Diarra close to Tottenham switch

Spanish Sports paper “Marca” has published in its online section that Real Madrid and English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur have come to an agreement to transfer French International midfielder Lassana Diarra.

The clubs are said to be finishing now a few “minor” technical details before making an official announcement at a price speculated to be around 12M€. Real Madrid initially put the bidding price at 20M€, but the pressure to find a club for the disgruntled player combined with the close approaching transfer deadline day (August 31) has worked in favour of Tottenham.

Diarra, who featured in the El Clasico marathon last season, has found his place in the Real Madrid starting line-up a major doubt after a series of midfield acquisitions by Jose Mourinho over the summer. It was clear that the manager, who gave Diarra a run-out during the marathon vs Barca, was not happy with him staying in his plans and decided to go for stronger replacements in Nuri Sahin and Hamit Altintop. This combined with the emergence of Fabio Coentrao, whose versatility makes him playable in midfield as well thus slotting Marcelo at LB, meant the death of Diarra.

The transfer to Tottenham is a good move for Diarra as Spurs are looking to bolster their options in midfield and the Frenchman will have good chances of sealing a berth in the starting XI.
