What's the news?
According to reports from news outlet AS Diario, Real Madrid are closing in on a €60 million transfer for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Luka Jovic. The reports are also claiming that Jovic might have even agreed to a six year deal with the Spanish giants already.
In case you didn't know...
The 21 year old striker has been in an explosive form, scoring 26 goals in the 44 games that he has played for Eintracht Frankfurt this season. He also has 7 assists to his name in all competitions.
Since shining on the European stage and in the Bundesliga at the start of the season, Jovic has been linked with major European clubs including Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, but it seems Real Madrid might have just done enough to secure the signing.
Jovic plays for the Serbian national team in the forward position as well.
The Heart of the Matter
Reports revealed that Jovic has been very much aware of Real Madrid being in advanced talks with Eintracht Frankfurt for the move, and he has even started making contact with current players at the Bernabeu using mutual friends.
The Serbian is set to be handed a six year deal at Los Blancos, which will see him stay in the Spanish capital at least till the end of the 2024-25 season if everything goes right for him in front of the goal.
Apparently, Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane is expecting to add more proven firepower to the squad for the next season, and with Eder Militao already signed from FC Porto, Jovic is set to become the second signing of the Real Madrid revolution saga under Zidane.
Jovic will supposedly play alongside French striker Karim Benzema, after Mariano Diaz has failed to impress last season. He might just be the perfect long term replacement for Benzema as the latter is 31 years old now.
What's next?
Jovic is currently focused on the Europa League semi-final second leg at Stamford Bridge next week, after scoring against Chelsea in his side's 1-1 stalemate in Germany. Before the semi-final second leg, Eintracht Frankfurt play Bayer Leverkusen on sunday in the Bundesliga.
