The European Union has suspected the breach of some EU competition rules after there were allegations against some of the top European Football clubs, including Real Madrid, of having received state aid. The EU has started analysing the allegations against the European clubs.
In March, some Dutch clubs, including PSV Eindhoven, were examined over suspected state aid. There is a strong speculation that Real Madrid is under the scrutiny too.
According to the Deloitte’s report in January, Real Madrid was the richest club in the whole of Europe in terms of income.
A EU spokesperson has said that it was too early to tell whether a formal investigation should be carried out or not. The BBC News has quoted a Commission spokesman, Antoine Colombani, saying,
“At this stage we are just analysing information which is available to us”
However, Real Madrid has denied all the allegations against the club and are adamant not to have breached EU competition rules.
