Real Madrid assistant manager Zinedine Zidane has admitted that the club are unsure of what Xabi Alonso will do.
The Spanish World Cup winner’s contract expires in the summer and with the club and player at loggerheads over any new contract, it seems that Alonso may leave Madrid.
However, the club have made it clear they would like to keep him. They have apparently offered Alonso a two-year deal but he is said to have turned that down with interest from many top European clubs circling around him.
Zidane, speaking to Spanish TV channel Cuatro, said: “We do not know what’s happening with Xabi Alonso.”
The Frenchman is, of course, Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant manager at the Santiago Bernabeu so he will be well aware of transfer goings-on in the squad.
Chelsea, and Jose Mourinho in particular, are said to be extremely interested in the former Liverpool midfielder who may try his hand in the Premier League one last time.
Time will tell but at the moment, where Alonso’s future lies is anyone’s guess.
