According to transfermarkt.com, Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio’s market value is on a meteoric rise. In the 2015/16 season, the youngster’s value was only €3.5 million. Just one year later, the Spaniard’s market value is currently estimated at €12 million. That is a truly remarkable rise in such a short period - a 242% increase in one year.
In order to determine the value of a player, the website uses a calculation that involves a range of factors like the player’s age, potential, international experience, recent form, consistency and marketability. While it’s impossible to accurately determine a player’s exact worth, the calculation is reliable enough to be considered a decent estimate.
Looking at the Real Madrid squad as a whole, the team’s overall value has increased by 8% since last year. Their total market value during the 2015/16 season was €706 million, whereas today it stands at €764 million.

The other players whose values increased by over 100% over the last season are youngsters Mariano, Lucas Vazquez, Casemiro, Keylor Navas and Alvaro Morata. Raphael Varane, Karim Benzema and Marcelo had increases of 20% each, while James Rodriguez, Dani Carvajal, Toni Kroos and Gareth Bale had smaller gains.
Goalkeeper Ruben Yanez is the only player whose value has remained constant, at €0.3 million. The others in the squad all suffered decreases in market value. Pepe’s value depreciated the most, going from €15 million to €6 million - a 60% decrease.
His fellow Portuguese compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo’s value also took a hit of 9%, going from €120 million to €110 million. Both players had brilliant seasons for both club and country, winning trophies with both teams, so their market value depreciation can be attributed to their steadily advancing age.

Karim Benzema’s value of €60 million already far exceeds the €36 million paid to bring him to the club. Similarly, Toni Kroos’ €55 million valuation is well above the €25 million invested by Real Madrid to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu.
On the other hand, Kovacic has a value of €20 million, but he was bought for €35 million. Danilo’s €18 million market value is almost half the €31.5 million that Real Madrid splashed to acquire his services.
