#1 Cristiano Ronaldo breaks Lionel Messi\'s record
The man made a promise after Real Madrid's defeat on penalties to Bayern Munich two seasons back that he owned the fans a Champions League final, and he will give it to them. Now, almost two years later he has lived up to his promise as he helped Real Madrid secure a 0-4 win over Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich at Allianz Arena. With the brace he scored on Wednesday, he overtook Barcelona forward Lionel Messi's record of scoring the highest number of goals in a signgle Champions League season.
Messi had 14. Cristiano Ronaldo has found the net a record 16 times this season. [Ronaldo still has a game in hand.]
The only player who has scored more goals than Ronaldo in European competitions in one season is Radamel Falcao in the Europa League (18). His goal celebration would tell you how driven he was after he knew he had broken the record. He used his hands to indicate to the number 15.
#2 Cristiano Ronaldo reached a personal milestone
250th goal in 243 matches. Let that sink in for a while.
A breakdown of his goals in the five seasons he had played for Los Merengues:
2009/10: 33 goals in 35 matches
2010/11: 53 goals in 54 matches
2011/12: 60 goals in 55 matches
2012/13: 55 goals in 55 matches
2013/14: 49 goals in 44 matches (Yet.)
Total: 250 goals in 243 games
To average a goal a match every season is something only a few manage to do, and Ronaldo doing it almost every season makes it look so simple. To put things into perspective, teams such as Cardiff and Norwich have managed to score 31 and 28 goals from 31 and 36 matches respectively.

Iker Casillas stands at 143 matches, one more than Van der Sar's 142. Former Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn has played 141 matches.
