Reds sign Suarez for £22.8 million

Suarez Will be Kenny Dalglish's first signing as Liverpool Manager

Liverpool have signed Luis Suarez for 22.8 million pounds after meeting Ajax coach Frank de Boer’s deadline before the end of the transfer period.

de Boer, who earlier this week said that if Liverpool wanted to sign Suarez, they had to do it within Saturday as Ajax did not want any negotiations during the closing stages of the transfer period. After initially asking for €30 million for Suarez, Ajax have settled for a sum short of that at €26.5 million for their skipper.

The statement from the official website of Ajax read: “Ajax and Liverpool have reached an agreement over the transfer of Luis Suarez. He will make the move to the English club immediately. The deal is worth up to a total of €26.5 million.”

Suarez who scored 48 goals in 46 games for the Dutch club last season is one of the most promising strikers in Europe. He excelled this year for Uruguay and formed a deadly partnership with Diego Forlan during the World Cup.

This will be Liverpool Manager Kenny Dalglish’s first signing as manager for the club in 20 years and even though the transfer fee is on the high side, it is still a good signing.

Meanwhile, their record signing, Fernando Torres has asked for a transfer to Chelsea and it will be a big blow for Liverpool if he is to leave before the end of January. Liverpool have rejected the bid and have told El Nino to honour his long term contract.

The question remains over whether the Blues or a team like Manchester City can come up with a substantial bid to complete the deal. However, with little time left before the window closes, this is highly unlikely to happen. But, we may never know, lots of drama have taken place during the last day of the transfer window.

Will Suarez join Torres in Liverpool’s line up or will he be his replacement? What is gonna happen to Liverpool who are looking to turn around their season under King Kenny?
