Ayza Gámez, the referee who had sent Cristiano Ronaldo off during the match between Athletic Club Bilbao and Real Madrid last weekend has been suspended for one month.
The decision was taken by the Referees’ Technical Committee (CTA) who made it sure that the decision was based on his performance in the match, but not the red card given to Cristiano Ronaldo.
CTA President, Sánchez Arminio, had told Gamez about the committee’s decision to ban him and, it is now being reported by Inside Spanish Football that the chances of him being thrown off the list of La Liga referees next season are very high.
Cristiano Ronaldo was handed a three-match after he pushed Athletic’s Carlos Gurpegi and furthermore, made a polemic gesture to the assistant referee while he was leaving the field.
Real Madrid are yet to appeal against the ban.
