Refreshing start from Milan

Milan made a flying start to their Serie A campaign with a thumping 4-0 victory over Lecce. They have set alarm bells ringing throughout Europe with their performance.Milan opened the scoring in 16th minute through Pato. In 23rd minute Thaigo Silva scrambled a goal from a corner. Five minutes later Ronaldinho set up Pato with a through ball, Pato rounded the keeper and put the ball in an empty net. The match was in Milan’s grasp. They conntinued to dominate play till half time. They seemed to slice open Lecce’s defence at will.

After the break, Milan seemed to take the foot of the pedal allowing Lecce to show some of their substance. Lecce brought in Chevanton. He had their only notable chance when his curling shot was saved by the keeper. But still Milan managed to have their attempts on goal. In 60th minute Borrielo’s goal was ruled offside. Inzaghi’s lob hit the pole. Milan added their fourth and final goal in the 90th minute when veteran Inzaghi shot through the legs of the keeper.

The star of the game was Ronaldinho. He split Lecce defence almost at will. Combined with the pace of Pato, it looked like Milan were going to score every time. It looked like he had turned the clock back to his heydays at Nou Camp. He looked fit and full of energy often falling back to win the ball from Lecce.These are very good signs for Milan.

Next they face Cesena on 12th September. The odds are firmly in Milan’s favour
