Spanish side Malaga got a huge boost after UEFA lifted the European ban that was imposed on them due to financial irregularities. However, Malaga will not be included in the upcoming Champions League as only the “second one-year suspension” has been lifted.
Malaga were banned from the Champions League for one year by the UEFA due to overdue payments. However, Malaga appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
UEFA had a meeting with Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) and the decision over the fate of eight clubs who had overdue payments was made.
Rapid Bucharest were fined 100,000. The Romanian club will also be excluded from UEFA competitions for the next three seasons. Ukraine’s Arsenal Kiev were also fined 75,000 euros.
Malaga, Hadjuk Split (Croatia), NK Osijek (Croatia), Dynamo Bucharest (Romania), FK Partizan (Serbia) and FK Vojvodina (Serbia) had fulfilled the conditions imposed by the CFCB and thus had their ban lifted.
In December, UEFA had ruled out Malaga’s participation in the European tournament for the next four seasons due to unpaid bills.
