Chelsea midfielder Juan Mata is completing his medical with Manchester United today and is expected to be confirmed as the club’s new record transfer within 24 hours, Sky Sports report.
The deal to bring Mata to United is said to be worth £37 million after Chelsea accepted a bid on Wednesday evening.
A helicopter pad was set up for the Spaniard to arrive at Carrington – United’s training ground – today and complete his medical. Once that is out of the way, the contractual formalities must take place before Mata is confirmed as a Manchester United player.
He has been at the centre of plenty of speculation for months now as his future at Stamford Bridge has been in doubt due to insufficient playing time.
Reports of United’s interest in Juan Mata started just a few days ago, but suddenly, in the space of three days, he’s on the verge of leaving the club where he’s won the FA Cup, Europa League and Champions League.
The signing of Mata may signal a change in fortunes for United and David Moyes who have had a miserable season, compounded by their Capital One Cup semi-final defeat to Sunderland on Wednesday night.
