Former Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, was involved in the discussions regarding the sacking of David Moyes.
Moyes was released from his duties on Tuesday morning after United suffered a 2-0 defeat against Everton, thus bringing to an end their frustrating campaign under his management. Upset by 10 losses in 22 games since January, the club officials lost faith in the Scot’s credibility to manage the squad.
And it is believed that Ferguson was consulted prior to Moyes’s sacking. The former boss of United who appointed Moyes as his successor is said to have played a part in his removal although he did not make the final call to end his tenure.
United had signed Moyes on a six year contract and he was viewed as a long term replacement. But his contract was terminated just after 10 months of his putting pen to paper.
The Red Devils are currently sitting in 7th position, 23 points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool. The alarm bells rang when a dispirited United side were defeated 2-0 at Greece by Olympiakos in their round-of-16 Champions League encounter.
Although they overturned the deficit at Old Trafford, inconsistency existed in their performances as they were convincingly defeated by the top teams in the league.
After a disappointing 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park against Everton, The Glazers, who were upset with the manner of the loss, talked to the board members of the club to discuss the future of Moyes. It is believed that Ferguson, who wasn’t spotted in the stands during the match was also involved.
The Glazers were ready to allot £200m to Moyes for the summer transfer window. But the team’s failure to perform and a shortage of results have led to his dismissal.
United are monitoring several personnel for the managerial position at Old Trafford . Ryan Giggs will serve as the interim manager for rest of the season. Many big names have been approached with Louis Van Gaal deemed as the primary candidate for next season.
