Reported Man United target Marek Hamsik has ruled himself out of a possible move this summer. The playmaker confirmed he’s “never” thought about leaving the Serie A giants and that he has no problems with manager Rafa Benitez, the Express report.
Hamsik made it clear to reporters that he sees his future in Naples: “I have never thought to leave, I want to stay at Napoli,” he insisted.
Hamsik had a mixed term last season, only playing 1974 minutes, while in the season before – he played all 38 games and played a staggering 3271 minutes. Furthermore, the free-scoring ace has seen a decrease in some of his key statistics compared to last season and the 2012/13 term. For example, in 2012/13 campaign, Hamsik scored 11 goals, while last season, he only managed just over half of that haul, scoring seven.
Perhaps more worryingly for Benitez and the Napoli faithful is the fact that in the 2012/13 term, Hamsik created a stunning 100 chances, getting 14 assists. While last season, he created 55 chances and produced just five assists.
Some have argued that the role change Hamsik made for Napoli under new boss Benitez has effected the player’s form. However, Hamsik admits that he could have done more last season: ”I expected more of myself. I felt bad but I don’t want to find excuses. Luckily we won the Coppa Italia.”
The Napoli superstar also stated that he has no problems with ex-Liverpool boss: ”I haven’t had problems with Benitez.
“I had a good start to the season, but then I got injured. It has been the first serious injury of my career.”
