Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas is set to be offered a new deal by the club, Marca reports. The Costa Rican has performed brilliantly for Los Blancos this season and is now one of the most important members of the team.
Navas was heavily linked with a to move to Old Trafford in the past transfer windows with Spaniard David De Gea moving in the opposite direction to stand between the sticks for Real Madrid. But, some irresponsible clerical mistakes from both the clubs meant the paperworks were not submitted in time and the £29.3m move fell off.
However, De Gea signed a new contract with Manchester United within ten days of the transfer fiasco. This new deal meant the Spaniard got a huge pay rise, as earlier he earned £60,000 per week but since the extension, he pockets a cool £200,000 per week at Old Trafford.
The ex-Levante shot-stopper has been in scintillating form this season for Real Madrid. He has made 27 saves so far, the most of any goalkeeper in the Spanish League.
The club’s board is happy with the goalkeeper’s response, and the deal is supposed to be worth 2.5 million euros, according to Marca. The new deal is assumed to be signed before the end of this year.
Navas has my full confidence: Rafa Benitez
Rafa Bentiez, the Real Madrid manager stated earlier in September that he has confidence in the 28-years old . He said in one of his pre-match conferences, "Keylor knows that I have full confidence in him. I hope that he plays well, he already has my full trust", according to Goal.
After a string of tremendous performances from the goalkeeper, Benitez even went on to say in an interview with Cadena Ser that he was delighted with Navas before the transfer saga, and he feels the same about him now. He said, "I was delighted to have Keylor before and I am delighted to have him now. I didn't have to convince him about anything. I just gave him my professional opinion. He knows I supported him since the beginning to the end."
The ten time Champions League winners have been undefeated so far this season, and they sit on top of La Liga with 21 points in nine matches. Barcelona has the same number of points, but they have a goal difference of eight as compared to Madrid’s 18. The Los Blancos have conceded only three goals and have kept 6 clean sheets in the league.
