Reports this morning from various media outlets suggest that Barcelona winger Alexis Sanchez could be edging towards an Arsenal move.
Sanchez has also been targeted by Liverpool and impressed at the World Cup, scoring twice and assisting once during Chile’s progression to the last 16, where they agonisingly lost on penalties to hosts Brazil.
Spanish newspaper AS, quoted in Metro, believes that Arsenal are prepared to bump his current £75,000 weekly wage up to £130,000 in an effort to clinch a deal, in addition to a lucrative signing on fee. They also believe that the London side will offer 25-year-old Sanchez a six year deal at The Emirates.
Metro believe that Sanchez’s preferred destination, should he leave Barcelona, is Arsenal – a belief backed up by Spanish journalist Guillem Balague.
The Sky Sports pundit tweeted that Arsenal have a personal agreement with Sanchez to move to the club, but have offered less money than Liverpool have. As well as the player’s preference for an Arsenal move, the deal is also complicated by the fact that Barcelona may wish to use him as a bargaining tool in their move for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.
Balague believes that Sanchez is not currently part of the Suarez deal, but that Liverpool have not given up hope on persuading him to move to Anfield over Arsenal.
Sanchez scored 19 league goals for Barcelona last season, as well as providing ten La Liga assists.
