What’s the rumour?
If reports from the Mundo Deportivo (via The Sun) are to be believed, Atletico Madrid want Paris Saint-Germain ace Edinson Cavani to replace Antoine Griezmann this summer.
In case you didn't know...
One of the most prolific goalscorers of our generation, Cavani has been a pivotal figure in PSG's resurgence. He joined the club in 2013 from Napoli and has gone on to become their all-time leading goalscorer as well.
The Uruguayan is a force to be reckoned with on his day and is a complete forward, capable of fitting into any team in this world. He has scored more than 350 goals for club and country, and his current contract with PSG runs out in 2020.
The heart of the matter
Griezmann has been a target for many of Europe's top teams for a couple of years and was very close to a move to Manchester United last summer. But a transfer ban to Atletico saw him stay put in Spain and as we now approach the next transfer window, the rumours have resurfaced.
He has been widely linked with Barcelona of late and they are reportedly the front-runners for his signature. Atletico seem to be braced for his exit and, as per the report, are lining up Cavani as his replacement.
Cavani and Neymar haven't gotten along all that well this season and Atletico hope to take advantage of the situation and lure the Uruguayan in.

Author’s take
There is every chance that Griezmann makes the switch to Barcelona this summer and if he does, there are not many strikers better than Cavani to replace him. PSG though will not let go of the player, who is valued at €60 million, easily.
