Former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is set to replace Pep Guardiola as the next Bayern Munich manager, according to widespread reports. The Italian tactician will join the club after Pep Guardiola’s contract with the club expires in the summer. The announcement of their union will be made by the German club’s board after Guardiola makes it public that he will not renew his contract with the Bundesliga champions in the next week.
The ex-Barcelona manager joined the Bavarian giants in 2013 on a three-year deal and has won two Bundesliga titles with the club. The Bayern Munich board has been aware of the fact that the Spaniard will not sign a contract extension for quite some time now and supposedly, Guardiola will himself make the announcement after Bayern’s match against Hannover on Sunday.
On the other hand, Ancelotti has been on a sabbatical since he left Spanish giants Real Madrid earlier in May this year. The ex-Milan coach was at the helm of the Madrid-based club for two years in which he helped the Los Blancos win La Decima (10th Champions League title). He also won the Copa del Rey, defeating Barcelona in the final of the tournament in the same season.
However, the club failed to win a single trophy in the subsequent season and Real Madrid’s president Florentino Perez announced that the club's board had taken "a very difficult decision" to relieve Ancelotti of his duties.
The 56-year-old has managed various top-flight clubs in his glittering career which include the likes of Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain along with Real Madrid. He has won the league titles in Italy, England and France but failed to win one in Spain. Now with the reports that he will join Bayern Munich, he will have a great chance to win a league title in Germany as well. Supposedly he will sign a three-year contract with the German giants.
Manchester United must appoint Guardiola: Ferdinand
Pep Guardiola’s future has also been subjected to a lot of speculation, with Manchester City believed to be the front-runners for his signature. Manchester United and Chelsea are also supposedly tracking the 44-year-old’s situation and might make a move for him in the summer.
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand stated yesterday that the Red Devils should pounce on the chance of bringing Guardiola to the club before he joins their Premier League rivals Manchester City or Chelsea.
“The thing with Manchester United is that he will go to one Premier League team and won’t be going to another [after that],” Ferdinand said.
“There is one chance – you have one chance to get him. He won’t go to Manchester City and then to United; he’s not going to go to Chelsea and then United. It won’t happen, so you’ve got one chance to get the best manager on the planet.”
