Chelsea are prepared to offer Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba the best contract in the club’s history, according to Goal.
Cesc Fabregas recently arrived at Stamford Bridge on terms on a four-year deal worth £180,000-a-week, placing him amongst Eden Hazard, Fernando Torres, and John Terry as one of the club’s top earners.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is now prepared to make the 21-year-old an even better offer, as part of Jose Mourinho’s plans to challenge for both the Premier League and Champions League next season. Mourinho plans to use Cesc Fabregas as the team’s main playmaker in the number 10 role, and he wants Pogba to play alongside Nemanja Matic in central midfield.
Pogba, who is currently in Brazil with the France squad, has won two consecutive Serie A titles for Juventus since joining from Manchester United in 2012. Pogba has two years remaining on his deal at Juventus, and the club want him to extend his stay in Turin, though they would consider an offer that matched their £60 million valuation of the French midfielder.
Manchester United have also been linked with a move to bring Pogba back to Old Trafford, though the signing of Ander Herrera may have ended their interest.
As well as tracking Pogba, Chelsea are expected to bring Diego Costa in from Atletico Madrid and are eyeing his team mate Felipe Luis at left-back.
David Luiz was sold to PSG for an initial fee of £40m, and Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard have also left Stamford Bridge, freeing funds on the club’s wage bill.
