Chelsea target Filipe Luis has rejected talks with Spanish champions Atletico Madrid to try and force and move to Stamford Bridge, according to the Daily Express.
The Blues have been chasing the Brazilian left-back, who was left out of his country’s World Cup squad this summer, since releasing 33-year-old Ashley Cole at the end of the season. They also gave up their pursuit of Southampton’s teenage left-back, Luke Shaw, after the price for his talents rose above £30 million. Manchester United have now signed him but Chelsea’s main target in that position is now Luis, who was brilliant for Atleti last season.
Atletico Madrid won La Liga for the first time since 1996 last season and reached the Champions League final for the first time in a generation, with Filipe Luis a key player in both defence and attack at left-back.
Reports in Spain recently have suggested that Filipe Luis is upset with his low wages and would like the move to Chelsea to increase his bank balance as well as challenge for more honours elsewhere.
His latest refusal to sit and talk with Atleti points towards the Brazilian forcing his move through to Stamford Bridge and Chelsea who have already signed Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona and are on the verge of completing the signing of Diego Costa for £32m.
