Chelsea want to sign John Stones and complete the potential £12 million deal before the World Cup begins next month, according to the Mirror.
Stones, 19, has had a brilliant breakthrough season at Everton, impressing while filling in at right-back and in centre for both Seamus Coleman and England teammate, Phil Jagielka.
Chelsea’s interest was first reported several weeks ago as his calmness and maturity in defence was years beyond his age. Stones has been fantastic for the Blues this season and they could have a big task on their hands keeping hold of him.
Manchester United and Arsenal are also thought to be interested in the Englishman, who will travel to Brazil with the England squad and provides a back-up if Phil Jones is not fit.
Everton’s former manager David Moyes paid £3 million to sign Stones from Barnsley last summer, before moving on to manager Manchester United, and he has proved himself to be one of the top flight’s most exciting young talents in his first season at Goodison.
