Reports: Harry Kane will be Jose Mourinho's prime target if he becomes Manchester United manager

Harry Kane
Kane is United’s top target

The Jose Mourinho to Manchester United story has gained momentum in the past few weeks. Recently the manager has even been rumoured to have signed a pre-contract agreement with the Red Devils.

Louis Van Gaal has not been able to produce the desired results this season. Several ex-players and fans have been voicing their concern for a while now and it looks likelier by the day that the Dutchman is nearing the exit door.

If Mourinho is to take over in the summer at Old Trafford he will make Harry Kane his first priority. According to several reports, the Portuguese is keen to bring the England international to help solve United’s striking problems.

Harry Kane has been in brilliant form over the last few months after a slow start to the season. The striker is currently joint top scorer in the league along with Jamie Vardy after his recent scoring spree.

Kane has a very high work rate and a willing runner, qualities that define Mourinho’s philosophy. The 22-year-old will add a different dimension to United’s attack and also lift some of the burden from Wayne Rooney’s shoulders.

Mourinho was first impressed with the forward when he produced a brilliant all-round performance to dismantle Chelsea last season during Tottenham's 5-3 win over their London rivals.

Kane has scored 58 goals in 119 appearances for Spurs and is set to be one of the key men in Roy Hodson’s plan for the Euros in the summer. But luring him to Old Trafford is going to be a tough task for the club.

Tottenham are known to be hard negotiators with Daniel Levy a very shrewd man when it comes to transfers. It's one of the primary reasons United haven’t signed too many players from the club with their last signing being Dimitar Berbatov in 2008 for a fee of over £30 million.

Harry Kane will probably cost in excess of £50 million if United are to at least try and pry him away from the North London club

Manchester Derby could decide the two clubs’ fate

Manchester City and Manchester United have been way off the pace in terms their league targets this season. City are currently 4th in the table 14 points behind leaders Leicester but have played tow games less.

United, on the other hand have been struggling to get into the top four. They are currently 4 points behind their neighbors in the table but a win today at the Etihad could boost their hope of qualifying for the Champions League
