What’s the story?
Jose Mourinho has reportedly promised David de Gea that he will discuss his move to Real Madrid after the current season. The Manchester United shot-stopper has been linked to a move back to Madrid in the summer, with current goalkeeper number 1 Keylor Navas struggling to establish himself as the number 1 for the Champions League holders.

Jose Mourinho in a recent press conference admitted that it is very difficult to keep a player who doesn’t want to stay at the club (referring to Morgan Schneiderlin’s move to Everton).
In case you didn’t know..
Real Madrid have been linked with a move for David de Gea for the best part of three years. The Manchester United number 1 was close to moving to Real Madrid in the summer of 2015, but the move fell through at the last minute due to logistical issues.
Since then, de Gea has signed a new contract with Manchester United and Real Madrid will need a world record fee (for a goalkeeper) to prise away the Spanish number 1 from Old Trafford.
The heart of the matter
Real Madrid, especially since Zinedine Zidane has taken over, have gone from strength to strength. However, their Achilles heel remains the goalkeeping position, with Keylor Navas susceptible to the occasional blunder.
David de Gea is definitely among the top three goalkeepers in the world, if not the best. With Manchester United’s transition post Sir Alex Ferguson set to continue, Champions League success loos a far-fetched idea.
He has won all domestic trophies at Old Trafford, and has been the Manchester United player of the year for each of the last three seasons. It is safe to say that he has not a lot left to prove at Manchester.
What’s Next?
Manchester United have a make or break end of the season. They play Celta Vigo in the semi-finals of the Europa League, with the winners getting an automatic place in the Champions League group stages.
In the League, they have gone 25 games without a loss, but have drawn 11 games at home. By the sound of things, Jose Mourinho will be rotating in the League and concentrating their resources in the Europa League.
Whatever happens, David de Gea will be at the forefront till the end of the season.
