What's the story?
Liverpool appear to be facing the consequences of a shambolic summer transfer window that saw their much-publicized summer fling with Southampton's Virgil Van Dijk end in heartbreak for both parties. It seemed inevitable at the time that Liverpool's defence would struggle without reinforcement, and so it has, shipping in 17 goals from only 11 Premier League matches.
To make things worse, injuries to Sadio Mane and Philippe Coutinho have exposed significant frailties in the Liverpool attack, and Klopp's team have struggled to break down defences without the pair.
The Sun reports that Jurgen Klopp has always admired David Silva and views the Spaniard as a potential alternative to the injured Adam Lallana. The Liverpool boss is expected to make a move for Silva in the winter transfer window in an attempt to bolster his offence.
In case you didn't know...
David Silva has yet to be tied down to a long-term contract by Manchester City, in spite of him being an integral part of Guardiola's immediate plans for the club. The 31-year-old Spaniard will be out of contract in 2019 and has attracted interest from several clubs including AC Milan, Inter Milan and Fenerbahçe.
Pep Guardiola is believed to have offered Silva a 12-month contract extension to stave off interest from potential suitors, but transfer talks have not progressed over the last few months between Silva and Manchester City, with Silva refusing to budge on wage demands.
The heart of the matter
David Silva is one of City's most successful players, with two Premier League titles, two League Cups and an FA Cup to his name. He has been fundamental in City's resurgence as a Premier League powerhouse in recent years, and has scored 40 goals and registered 71 assists in the English top flight since joining the Citizens in 2010.
His vision, composure and his range of passing have helped him become one of the best players in the world in his position. Silva is a traditional number 10, and has the capability to score goals, create chances and retain possession.
He is part of a City squad that has played some scintillating football in recent weeks, and has impressed in recent performances.

The Spaniard, nicknamed Merlin, has been dazzling Premier League fans with his sublime left-foot for the better part of a decade.
Author's Take
David Silva has been a regular starter for Manchester City in 2017/18, featuring fifteen times since the beginning of the season. City already enjoy an 8 point lead at the top of the Premier League table, and look like they could run away with the title.
Silva has also been named in Spain's World Cup squad for Russia 2018. A good performance with Spain could significantly increase Silva's stock, and it could earn him a lucrative transfer deal in the 2018 summer transfer window.
Moving to Liverpool in January would almost definitely mean missing out on the Premier League title. However, if he can put off signing a new deal with Manchester City, Silva may be able to have his cake and eat it too by the end of this season.
