Swansea City have agreed a deal with former Lyon striker Bafetimbi Gomis who is available on a free transfer.
Gomis has spent the past five years with Ligue 1 side Lyon but he failed to agree a new deal with the club as the French side look to trim their wage bill and thus is available to join Swansea on a free.
The 28-year-old striker scored 17 goals in all competitions for Lyon last season and Gomis had been heavily linked to Newcastle in the past but disagreements over wages and transfer fees have held the deal up.
Sky Sports are now reporting though that Swansea have jumped ahead of the Magpies and are set to make Gomis their second signing of the summer after bringing in former Arsenal goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.
It is currently unclear whether Gomis is being signed by Swansea as competition for Wilfried Bony or as a direct replacement.
Bony enjoyed a good debut season in the Premier League and his form has seen him linked with a move away from the Welsh side with Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool both reportedly chasing the 25-year-old Ivorian forward.
In any case, the signing of Gomis could appear a sign of encouragement for either club chasing Bony.
