Reports: Man United’s £17m flop is moving closer to the exit door

Ashley Young‘s future has been thrown into doubt according to the Telegraph, with the national newspaper reporting that David Moyes has grown tired of the winger’s theatrics.

The 28-year-old was often the warned by Sir Alex Ferguson during the wily old manager’s time at the club and despite believing he had changed the player’s ways, it seems Young is getting up to old tricks now Moyes is in charge.

The former Everton manager, who has always been an avid protester against diving in football, stuck up for his player on Tuesday evening after he had won his side a penalty from the slightest of touches in the box.

“I’ve seen it and the boy certainly tugs him in the box,” the Scot said. “The referee is two yards away from it and decides to give it.

“All I know is he got a penalty kick from a decision; I don’t know about his reputation, but the referee is there and he gave it.”

However, it seems this was just a front for the media as the Telegraph have reported that a meeting between player and manager will take place over the coming days to assess Young’s future at the club. The former Aston Villa forward, once compared with Lionel Messi and Ronaldo by Martin O’Neill, has found himself at the centre of the diving debate for years now after earning a reputation as one of the most dramatic players in the game.

As Moyes looks to stamp his mark on the club he will be looking to oust players thataren’t willing to follow his instructions and Young will find him top of this list if he does not sort his act out. With Wilfried Zaha likely to leave on loan during the January transfer window it seems likely that Young will have until the summer to prove he can change his ways, but even then it may be best to look for pastures new in order to reignite his faltering career.
