According to the Mail Online, Stefan de Vrij is nearing a £7 million switch to Manchester United.
The Feyenoord centre-back will reject an approach from Serie A club Lazio, paving the way for Louis van Gaal to snap up his third signing of the transfer window, following the capture of Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Herrera and Southampton’s Luke Shaw.
Last week, talkSPORT reported that the Red Devils had sealed a deal for the Dutchman, although the Mail Online suggests that a formal offer has not yet been lodged.
De Vrij is currently on duty with Oranje at the World Cup and played the full 90 minutes as Netherlands gained entry into the quarter-finals courtesy of a nail-biting 2-1 victory over Mexico on Sunday.
The 22-year-old defender will be tasked with filling the void created by the departure of Manchester United stalwarts Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand at the end of last season.
Meanwhile, Colombia midfielder Juan Cuadrado said he will decide on his future after the World Cup, amid interest from United and other Premier League suitors.
