According to reports coming in from Bein Sports, Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho, following the derby loss to Manchester City on Sunday, had milk thrown at him after a spat with City goalkeeper Ederson in the dressing room.
Because of the way the Old Trafford tunnel is designed, the dressing rooms are in a separate area, far removed from where press and other match officials are stationed. This meant that there were no members of the press present when the incident occurred.
What transpired
The information currently available suggests that Mourinho went into the Manchester City dressing room after the match to complain about the noise emanating from the space, owing to the loud music and chanting following their victory over United on the day.
He reportedly asked the team to behave with more respect and accused goalkeeper Ederson of playacting and wasting time at the closing stages of the game. Whatever he said clearly upset Ederson (who, incidentally, speaks Portuguese as well). Following that, bottles of water and milk were thrown and something of a melee ensued between Mourinho (with the United squad backing him) and the City squad (with assistant coach Mikel Arteta present).
What is clear though, is that Mikel Arteta did pick up a nasty cut on his forehead after being hit by a bottle reportedly thrown by Romelu Lukaku (according by Spanish radio Cedanaser). It is unclear whether this act by the striker was deliberate or not. Arteta reportedly left the grounds bleeding out of his face.
Attempts to keep it under wraps and the FA's response
Both coaches did try to keep the incident under wraps with neither Jose Mourinho nor Pep Guardiola making single mention of it in their post game press conferences.
This clearly did little to hide it though, as the FA has ordered investigations into the spat and requested that both teams submit resports by Wednesday, the 13th of December 2017, or face consequences.
