Demba Ba looks like he could be the man to make way following Diego Costa’s arrival at Chelsea, with The Evening Standard reporting that newly-promoted QPR are interested in a move for the 29-year-old former Newcastle striker.
Chelsea signed Costa from Atletico in a £32 million deal earlier on Tuesday, further limiting the first-team chances of Ba, who made just five Premier League starts for Chelsea last season.
With Costa likely to lead the line, Ba will be left fighting for to play second-fiddle to the Spain international with Fernando Torres and Romelu Lukaku, should the Belgium attacker stay at the club, as well as any other new signings.
QPR are believed to be eyeing up an £8 million move to bring Ba to Loftus Road as they look to strengthen their squad following promotion from the Championship through the play-offs.
Ba played 19 times in the Premier League last season, with 14 of those coming from the bench, but did manage to score five times during his brief spells on the pitch.
Though, overall, Ba could leave the club without having made quite the impact he’d hoped, he did garner a reputation as something of a big-match player. The Senagalese 29-year-old netted the winning striker against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final, as well as Chelsea’s first through capitalising on Steven Gerrard’s slip in a crunch contest with Premier League rivals, Liverpool.
