Reports suggest that Real Madrid have identified 21 year old Cruzeiro midfielder Lucas Silva as a potential replacement for Sami Khedira. Khedira who is in the last year of his contract with the club has been unsettled at the club and has been linked with a move away to some of the biggest clubs across Europe. Madrid though have not been sitting idle and pondering and have identified Silva as a man who can replace the German. With the signing of Toni Kroos, Khedira’s chances in midfield look to have become less, as has been injured for some time now, and will find it difficult winning his spot back.
The Brazilian has been touted as one of the finest currently playing in Brazil and although he is yet to make an appearance for the full national team, it is a case of when rather than if. In fact his exclusion from Dunga’s squad led to him being criticized especially as the team lacks creativity in midfield.
Capped four times by the U-20s, it was at the recently concluded Toulon tournament in France which the Selecao won that the midfielder really impressed his suitors. Silva has made 41 league appearances for Cruzeiro who currently lead the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A ahead of Internacional by six points.
