What’s the story?
Real Madrid President, Florentino Perez has a reputation of being trigger happy and now latest reports from Spanish publication AS state that should Zidane fail to win the La Liga title this year, they could well end up replacing him with legendary Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger.
Wenger was booed by some sections of the fans yesterday in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw against Manchester City and he later admitted that he did not know how much longer he would remain in North London.
Real Madrid, on the other hand, secured a 3-0 victory against plucky La Liga side Alaves. However, their performance left a lot to be desired and the scoreline flattered them in the end.

In case you didn’t know...
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger’s future has been subject to intense speculation and there have been talks of Wenger quitting the Gunners at the end of the season. Although Wenger is now 67, he recently stated in an interview that retirement was like ‘dying’ and he would continue managing for a few more years.
While Zidane has had an incredible start to his managerial career at Real Madrid, Perez is extremely demanding and only a win in the League will be enough to keep Zidane’s job according to the reports.
The heart of the matter
There has been a lot of tension regarding Arsene Wenger at the Emirates with some fans wanting him to stay while others want him to go. No matter what, however, the fact remains that Wenger is an incredibly accomplished manager and he is still among the top managers in world football.
With Wenger’s contract running out, the Frenchman has yet to confirm his future and a number of top clubs across Europe like PSG, Barcelona and now even Real Madrid have been linked with his signature.
Zidane, on the other hand, has done little wrong since taking over, but there are some sections of fans and critics who think that he is tactically inept to handle the important situations. With football being all about results, Zidane is now under increasing pressure to deliver either the La Liga or Champions League title at the end of the season.
What’s next?
We are now at the business end of the season and with games arriving thick and fast, both Wenger and Zidane will be determined to end the season on a high. Arsenal will be desperate to bounce back from their terrible form and finish in the top 4, while Real Madrid will be hoping to negotiate a tricky Champions League match against Bayern Munich and not let any ground slip in the La Liga title race.

Author’s take
While it will be extremely harsh if Perez does indeed sack Zidane, there can be no denying the fact that Wenger taking over Real Madrid will be exciting for fans all over the world. With fan tension at an all time high at Arsenal, Wenger should gracefully walk away and accept a new challenge if the Real Madrid job does indeed become available next summer.
