Reports: Relief For Man United As Key Player Edges Closer Towards New Deal

Michael Carrick stats

Manchester United and England midfielder Michael Carrick is set to sign a new two-year extension to his contract at the club, ending any speculation linking him with a move away from Old Trafford, according to the Metro.

The 32-year-old’s current deal runs out at the end of the season and after impressive displays for United over the past couple of seasons, the club is keen to tie him down to a deal that will keep him at the club until 2016.

Apparently, the two-year deal on the table will pay the same £75,000 per week salary as Carrick is currently on.

United will also hope to add an option to extend it by a further year should they want to, meaning the likelihood of Carrick finishing his playing career with the Red Devils is high.

David Moyes is hoping to conclude contract negotiations with other senior members of the dressing room, such as, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra and Ryan Giggs.

Carrick has been at United for nine years having signed from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006 for around £18 million.

Carrick has a passing accuracy of 86% this season, with 463 of his 625 passes going forwards, a percentage of 74.1%.
