Romelu Lukaku has blossomed into a powerful and lethal goalscorer since he left Stamford bridge in 2014. The Belgian has become one of the best forwards in the Premier League with Everton and even knocked out his former club from the FA cup scoring twice against them
But now according to the Mirror the striker wants to return to the Blues as he has “unfinished business” with the club. Lukaku was initially on loan with Everton in 2013 but later on decided to leave permanently after Jose Mourinho brought in Diego Costa.
Lukaku is having his best season yet in terms of goals. He has now scored 25 goals in all competitions and is the 4th highest scorer in the Premier League. Several big clubs have been linked with the striker after he admitted he could be leaving in the summer.
“For me, things are going well at Everton right now. I can become top scorer of the Premier League. But, yes, I could be leaving the club in the summer” said the forward.
Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, and Manchester United are the clubs that have been put on alert after his statement but he would prefer a move back to Stamford Bridge to fulfill the potential they saw in him.
Lukaku was bought by Everton for a club record fee of £28 million but it is believed that the club would want a lot more for the player if he is sold in the summer. Chelsea have made a similar purchase before.
They sold Nemanja Matic to Benfica in 2011 when he was still a youngster. But after three impressive seasons in Portugal Chelsea bought him back for a much higher price. If Lukaku is interested then history suggests Chelsea will not hold back on the transfer.
Lukaku was initially loaned out West Brom where he flourished after which Everton decided to take him to the club. Since then, he has scored 55 goals in 88 appearances for the club and was also one of the youngest players to reach the 40 goal landmark in the Premier League.
It is reported that the board did not want Lukaku to leave but Mourinho was not keen on keeping him at the club which was the reason for his sale. Despite Lukaku’s form Everton have hugely disappointed in the league this season.
They Currently sit 11th and Roberto Martinez is slowly becoming an unpopular figure at the club. But the manager insists he will not change his style of play and is adamant he can make it work at Goodison Park.
