Return of King Kenny

As 9000-odd travelling fans chanted ‘King Kenny’ in a perfect FA-cup showdown with their bitter rivals Manchester United, the buzz was back amongst the Liverpool fans around the globe as their most revered son was back. As the emotional Scot looked awestruck at the away section, his moist eyes revealed the same love, the same fire and the same desire to propel the club to the top, that he had on his debut, way back in 1977. He could not have hoped for a better reception on his second homecoming. Even though the club lost 1-0, there were smiles on every single face as they believed the good ol’ days were back.

The King has returned

For every Liverpool fan, there can only ever be one King, Kenny Mathieson Dalglish. Be it his deft touches or his ultimate football brain, King Kenny has it all. Add to that his unwavering love, pride and passion for LFC, and we have a manager who can bring the glory days back to Anfield. No doubt the expectations are sky-high. And boy, has he lived up to them! 3 wins in 6 games may not be eye-catching, but the transformation on & off the field most certainly is. The famous style that encapsulated Liverpool FC: ‘pass & Move’ is back and so is the flair and determination of the players. He has transformed the bunch of disgruntled kids, which he inherited from his predecessors, into an army of fighters who take pride in putting on their LFC jersey. And their growing confidence has rubbed on the results as they ride on a 3-match winning streak, their best return since the departure of Rafa Benitez. His January signings – Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez – have clearly shown his and the owners’ intent of bringing back silverware to Anfield – soon. His statement on Torres’ departure that “No player is bigger than the club” has shown the Scot’s pride in the club and its stature in European football. By jettisoning Torres and bringing in future England spearhead Carroll and Ajax goal machine Suarez, Kenny Daglish has pulled off a brilliant coup by swapping a disgruntled striker with two young up-coming stars. Raul Meireles is increasingly looking assured in the play maker’s role under King Kenny and his link-up with the striker’s in the manager’s fluid system is growing. These are bright signs for the team which has had a troubled one and a half season.

Although its too early to evaluate whether he will be able to convert the current team into the all-conquering Red Machine of yesteryears, the SMILES ARE BACK AT ANFIELD. And it shouldn’t be too long before Liverpool get back to where they belong: the perch of European and English football!
