Rio charged over “choc ice” comments on Ashley Cole

Rio Ferdinand has been charged by the FA for bringing the game into disrepute over a tweet about Ashley Cole and a “choc ice” that he retweeted on Twitter. The offence took place during John Terry’shearing over his racial abuse of Rio’s brother and QPR player Anton Ferdinand, where Ashley Cole was supporting Terry’s defence.

The original tweet suggested that Ashley Cole was betraying his own race by supporting John Terry and Ferdinand replied “I hear you fella! Choc ice is classic! hahahahahahha!!” The whole thing seems a bit farcical but ultimately it was a silly and misguided thing for Rio Ferdinand to do. Thankfully Rio won’t miss any matches and will instead pay a fine just under the 45 thousand pound mark.
