Rio Ferdinand Fined For Remarks

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdin­and has been fined £45,000 by the Eng­lish Foot­ball Asso­ci­ation for refer­ring to Ash­ley Cole as a Choc Ice on Twit­ter. A Choc Ice is not always a gen­eric frozen dessert con­sist­ing of a block of rect­an­gu­lar ice cream, but it could also describe a per­son who is black on the out­side, white on the inside.

The Manchester United and Eng­land centre half was charged with improper con­duct for mak­ing com­ments on his Twit­ter site a couple of days after Ash­ley Cole gave evid­ence at John Terry’s trial at the start of July. Sir Alex Fer­guson: “The Foot­ball Asso­ci­ation want to close the door on this kind of thing. What sur­prises me is that other play­ers have been twit­ter­ing for ages and have never been chal­lenged by the Foot­ball Asso­ci­ation. His status in the game has caused that and who he plays for is maybe another issue.
