Rob Baan, the technical director of Indian football team, was hospitalised in Mumbai late on Wednesday night, after he suddenly lost consciousness. Baan, 70, was in Mumbai to assist national coach Wim Koevermans in conducting the AFC Professional license course.
According to All India Football Federation (AIFF), Baan’s condition is stable at the moment, and he is likely to return to Netherlands in the next few days.
An AIFF official said, “The doctors attending on Baan have advised a thorough check up. He is likely to go back to the Netherlands to seek urgent medical advice. The biggest worry is that once Baan regained consciousness, he apparently lost his memory for a short while.
“Presently, he is kept under observation.”
AIFF general secretary Kushal Das is not sure if Baan will able to complete his term till October. “That entirely depends on his health. It would be a loss because he was doing a great job for the federation,” Das stated.
Baan, who was appointed the technical director, played a crucial role in increasing efficiency of the Indian football system, both at the senior and at various age group levels and was instrumental in outlining a master plan named – Lakshya 2022. He played a key role in bringing Koevermans as the national coach and Arthur Papas in AIFF’s developmental side, Pailan Arrows.
