Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski has stated that his Polish teammate and Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny did try to talk him into a move to the North-London club.
Lewandowski will be joining Bavarian giants Bayern Munich on a free transfer after he signed a 5-yeal deal with the club in early January following a long drawn transfer saga.
Bayern were always the front-runners to grab the signature of the 25-year old but a lot of top European clubs were interested in the striker with the Gunners too keeping close tabs on his contract situation.
Arsene Wenger has made it clear earlier that he did indeed consider a move, while goalkeeper Szczesny also did his best to convince the striker to make the Emirates Stadium his home.
“I can confirm that Wojciech Szczesny tried to convince me to join Arsenal,” Lewandowski told Polish tabloid Fakt.
“We had several talks about this. It was him who did most of the talking, how the club looks inside, what Arsene Wenger thinks of me.
“When we trained before the Champions League games at Colney, there were important people from Arsenal at our sessions as well.”
Lewandowski is relieved to have completed signing a deal with Bayern Munich which has sorted out his long-term future, but also insists that his priority at the moment is doing as well as he can for Dortmund.
He explained: “I just lived with it. Straight after signing the deal with Bayern, I released the statement where I committed myself to Borussia for the final six months.
“I’m not thinking about all this, and what will happen, it’s not the right time,” he added.
