Delhi Dynamos FC announced the appointment of Brazilian star Roberto Carlos as its marquee player-manager for the second edition of Hero Indian Super League. Carlos today joined the club and unveiled the club’s new logo for upcoming season along with Vaibhav Manchanda, Vice-President-Technical, DDFC and Prashant Agarwal, President, DDFC held at Underdoggs Sports Bar & Grill, Ambience Mall, Vasant Kunj (venue partners DDFC for the Press Conference).

Delhi Dynamos FC’s marquee manager and former Brazilian star Roberto Carlos, said, “I am delighted to be part of the Delhi Dynamos team and confident that we will be able to play aggressive, skilful and positive game. I am looking forward to this stint as an opportunity to impart new playing techniques to players, hone their skills and raise their fitness levels”.
He further added “Indians have always been passionate about soccer and Brazil has always enjoyed tremendous support here, so I feel happy that I will make a meaningful contribution towards building a world class team in ISL.
On coming to India, Carlos said, “I am humbled by the immense support from Indian fans which motivated me to come here and play for Delhi Dynamos.”

Vaibhav Manchanda, Vice-President-Technical, DDFC, said, “We are thrilled to have Carlos as our marquee player-cum-manager. He is passionate, determined and has a focused vision for the club. The highlight of the event was the video message of legends like David Beckham, Zidane, Ronaldo, etc. congratulating Carlos for his new venture and offering their support to the club.

The new logo:
The logo has been designed to represent power, aggression and passion culminating to an unerring belief to win - values that are intrinsic to football as well as to Delhi. Reflecting these values are two key symbols in the logo. One is an epitome of power and strength – the great Lion.
The other is a symbol of Delhi’s rich heritage – the Red Fort. The colour palette has also been chosen keeping the values in mind – red to reflect power and passion, while blue to represent calmness and responsibility. Imbibing the spirit of India, are the hues of saffron and green on each side of ‘FC’.
About Roberto Carlos:
Roberto Carlos, a phenomenal dead-ball specialist, has played in three World Cups with Brazil finishing Runners-Up in 1998 and Champions in 2002. He was also an integral part of the Brazilian National Team which won two Copa Americas and FIFA Confederations Cup. Nicknamed 'The Bullet Man’, he began his professional career playing for União São João, a football club based in Araras (São Paulo state). In 1993, Carlos joined Palmeiras, where he played for two seasons, winning two consecutive Brazilian league titles.
In 1996, Carlos joined Real Madrid where he spent eleven hugely successful seasons, playing 584 matches in all competitions, scoring 71 goals. Known as Real Madrid's most capped foreign-born player in La Liga with 370 appearances, Carlos won four Primera Division titles, three UEFA Champions League trophies, the UEFA Super Cup and two Intercontinental Cups.
However, the left back's most famous moment came at the 1997 Tournoi de France when he curled in a 38-yard free kick against France. The goal is considered by many as the best ever free kick in modern times. His heroics saw him finish runner-up for the World Player of The Year Award in 1997. His other individual accolades include Runner Up in Ballon d’Or (2002), Golden Foot Award (2008), UEFA Defender of The Year (2002, 2003).
Roberto Carlos was also part of Fenerbahçe's squad that reached the Champions League quarter-finals in the 2007-2008 Season. In 2010 Carlos joined the Brazilian giants Corinthians before playing his last season for the big-spending Dagestan side Anzhi Makhachkala with whom he also had a brief stint as interim manager.
In August 2012, Carlos announced his retirement from football at the age of 39. The 42-year-old last managed Turkish top-flight club Akhisar following an 18-month spell in charge of local rivals Sivasspor.
Carlos’s coaching style involves swift passing and movement in intricate combinations similar to greats like Del Bosque and Luiz Felipe Scolari.
