New Werder Bremen coach Robin Dutt, who is of Indian origin, has stated in an interview with the newspaper Welt am Sonntag that his less than a year stint as technical director of the German Football Association was a mistake in his CV which needed to rectify.
Robin Dutt told Welt am Sonntag in the interview, “I was 18 years a coach, then I had the offer from the DFB and thought, I also would like to know this side of the business.”
But he quickly realised, “Oh, this is not the side from which you want to approach football. The longing for coaching again was incredibly large.”
Further, Dutt didn’t like the lone warrior status of the technical director, which Dutt occupied only for ten months and did not suit him. Moreover, it is a job in which you reap your rewards in three, four, five years and not immediately like in coaching.
And when the chance came around to takeover as head coach at Werder Bremen, Robin Dutt informed the DFB about his desire to leave and got the okay from the federation to join the north German Bundesliga club.
Now Dutt hopes to have success again at Bremen, who had Thomas Schaaf as their coach for close to 14 years and it won’t be an easy task to rebuild the squad with a tight budget.
