Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie is back in training after suffering a knee injury during the club’s Champions League match against Olympiakos in March.
After receiving treatment in his homeland, the 30-year-old could be fit to feature in interim manager Ryan Giggs’ second home game against Sunderland.
When asked about Van Persie’s possible return to the side, Giggs said, “We’ll just have to wait and see how he goes this week. He came back last Friday and he trained well. He just needs to work on his fitness now so, yeah, he looked great.”
Van Persie has endured a frustrating campaign this season despite netting a reasonable 11 goals in 18 appearances in the league. The Dutchman was reported to have withstood a tumultuous time under former manager David Moyes, questioning the 51-year-old’s tactics earlier in the season, causing rife speculation about the former Arsenal striker’s future before he committed himself to the club.
Van Persie’s return to United could spell good news to Holland in the wake of the summer World Cup in Brazil. The veteran striker has scored 41 times in 82 matches for the Oranje.
