Manchester United boss David Moyes has confessed that striker Robin Van Persie is doubtful for the Capital One clash against arch-rivals Liverpool, Sportsvibe reports.
The 30-year old could not participate in the Manchester Derby, which United lost 4-1, due to a groin injury.
The Dutch international’s absence came as a big blow to United who lacked a punch up front against City and the Red Devils face the possibility of him sitting out the game against Liverpool too.
Wayne Rooney played alongside striker Danny Welbeck against City and United may use the same strike partnership against their rivals on Wednesday.
“He had a groin strain in the week, we thought he might be OK but not quite,” said Moyes.
“Up until this morning, we thought he had a good chance. Maybe he’ll be OK for Wednesday.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool are set to welcome Luis Suarez back on Wednesday, who has finished serving his ten match ban for a bite on Chelsea defender Branslav Ivanovic last season.
