The World Cup is a few weeks away but the friendlies have already begun!
Netherlands played Ecuador in a warm-up game last night – a match that ended 1-1. But the highlight of the game was surely Robin van Persie’s goal.
Jefferson Montero had scored for Ecuador as early as the 9th minute. But in the 37th minute, Jordy Clasie sent in a long ball straight down the middle. Robin van Persie ran into the box, controlled the pass with his chest and volleyed it past Ecuador goalkeeper Maximo Banguera before it touched the ground.
Netherlands coach Louis Van Gaal was obviously delighted with the effort and said, “We saw a magnificent goal. A fantastic pass by Clasie and the way Van Persie finished it was phenomenal.”
