Manchester United manager David Moyes has revealed that both Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney could return to the United side for Tuesday night’s game with Cardiff City, revealing that both trained on Monday ahead of the game. Summer signing Marouane Fellaini also returned to training following a spell out of the side through injury, giving Moyes a welcome selection headache ahead of the visit of the Welsh side.
The news confirms reports over the weekend that the duo will return and means that Danny Welbeck may have to make do with a place on the bench against Cardiff.
Both Rooney and Van Persie have been in and out of the side this season, with injury causing the pair to start just seven games together. The last of those came in the 1-0 win over Arsenal in November and the duo’s injury problems have been a large factor in United’s poor start to the season.
Their most recent injuries have seen Rooney missing since New Years Day and Van Persie sit out the last seven Premier League fixtures. Rooney is the side’s top scorer this season with nine goals, whilst Van Persie has seven goals from his 11 league appearances.
Summer signing Fellaini may also return against Cardiff, having missed the last eight league games.
