Legendary Brazilian goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni has broken Ryan Giggs’s world record of most wins while playing for one club. The former winger and current assistant manager won 589 games with Manchester United. The 41-year-old reached the milestone after Sao Paulo’s 3-0 win over Goias on Monday night.
Ceni is set to retire in December after having spent 22 years at Sao Paulo since joining the club in 1992 with as many as four Guinness World records. The 6’2” stalwart also has 17 caps for the Brazil national side.

He holds the world records for most goals scored as a goalkeeper, most matches played for one club, most games as captain and now most wins for one club too. A set-piece specialist, he has scored as many as 123 goals. He came close last week but could only draw against Chapecoense. He has appeared in 1173 games captaining them on 867 occasions and has won 590 of them for his team.
Ceni made his 1000th appearance for São Paulo on 7 September 2011. He has won the Brasileiro Série A thrice (2006,2007 and 2008), the Copa Libertadores (1993,2005) and the Club World Cup in 2005 beating Liverpool 1-0 in the final. He was part of the Brazil squad that won the 1997 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
