Rome, Feb 3 (IANS): Roma director general Franco Baldini defended their decision to sack Zdenek Zeman as head coach, saying it was the only decision they could make.
The coach was officially sacked Saturday after a 2-4 home defeat to Cagliari.
“We decided to remove the coach from his post. This was the only decision we could make. We evaluated the situation and have given the team to Aurelio Andreazzoli, who has our faith,” said Baldini Saturday.
“Knowing the players, this is the best decision to make at this moment. We spoke to all the management staff and the club owners gave me this responsibility,” he said.
“I am sorry for the Roma fans, but I tried to give my all”, Zeman said after his dismissal.
This was his second spell with the Giallorossi as he also sat on the Olimpico bench from 1997 to 1999.
