2016/17: Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid (UEFA Champions League)
Real Madrid were drawn against Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals of the Champions League in the club’s best season in its long history.
Zizou’s men fell 1-0 behind at halftime. Ronaldo equalized early in the second half. The Portuguese then scored a late winner through Manuel Neuer’s legs. The Whites won 2-1 in the Allianz Arena that night. Ronaldo’s second goal was his one hundredth across European club competitions. While that goal hasn’t received the deserved credit, its absence would have meant that Real Madrid would have been out of the Champions League in the quarterfinals itself. This was because Bayern had secured a 2-1 win in the ninety minutes only to be battered 4-2 in extra time.
